#3 C6.R captures the pole with Mag and J.O. cutting a lap of 2:00.973. #4 slots in second at 2:01.059. The Maserati pulls up third, BUT, closes the gap to only 1.005 seconds from pole.

Story over right? Not when competitive spirits are at play.

Well, ALMS gave the MC12 a bigger rear wing vs FIA-GT specs for more downforce. Then, it seems the side skirts are running closer to the ground sealing the undertray. But our boys, ever the playful competitors, simply put it down to "soaking the tires overnight" in softening compound....or Italian grappa to give them the "unfair advantage" that's generating the mysterious traction.
