| With reliability issues for the new C7.R in the first two rounds of the Tudor United Sports Car Championship, Long Beach was an important points race for Corvette Racing. Unlike the old ALMS points system, the 1.5hr race at Long Beach is worth the same amount of points as the 24hr and 12hr races.
Qualifying is always very important at Long Beach. Due to the nature of the track, it is very difficult to pass. Jan Magnussen threw down a mega lap to put the #3 Corvette on pole in GTLM, while the sister car #4 driven by Tommy Milner managed P4.
At the drop of the green flag, Antonio Garcia in the #3 managed to out drag a slower Prototype to turn one, allowing him to gap the rest of the GTLM class. By the time the other GT cars could get by the prototype, Garcia managed to get an 11 second lead ahead of P2.
There is only 1 scheduled pit stop in this race, so it can make or break your race. Corvette Racing executed everything to perfection. The #4 Corvette managed to jump to P3 as one the the BMWs had to change a door for a broken mirror.
The race went Green for the full duration and Corvette Racing got both cars on the podium in P1 and P3.
