| First, earlier in the week, soon after the announcement was made that Cooper MacNeil would be joining Larbre Competiton in the #70 Corvette C6.R at this years 24hrs of Le Mans, another LM24 announcement was made. American Ricky Taylor, brother of Corvette Racing driver Jordan Taylor, will be joining Larbre Competition in the #50 Corvette C6.R.
There will be one American in each of the four Corvettes this year.
This weekend was the opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone.
The #50 Larbre Competition Corvette C6.R is back to defend it's title. The team was fast out of the gate in practice but ended up qualifying 5th behind some strong entries by Aston Martin and Ferrari.
The race was tough. Penalties were harsh, with a stop and hold for 30 seconds for passing under yellow, and a stop and hold for 45 seconds for a second offense.
If the final hour the team was in 3rd place, closing in on the 2nd place Ferrari. With just a few minutes left on the clock the Corvette was right on the tail of the Ferrari and touched the rear causing a punctured tire for the Ferrari. No penalty was called and the #50 came home with a second place finish. Very similar to Corvette Racing's experience at Sebring, the team never gave up, and came home with a solid finish.
Not a clean race, but a good start to the season with good points.
The next round of the WEC is May 4th at SPA-Francorchamps. |
