| Mosport, newly renamed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and now partially owned by Corvette Racing legend Ron Fellows, is one of the favorite stops on the ALMS schedule by all.
The Corvettes came off the truck ready to fight and qualified P1 and P2, locking out the front row.
About 30 minutes into the race the #4 Corvette, driven by Tommy Milner at the time, had a transmission failure, leaving the #4 stranded on track. The car was eventually towed back to the paddock. Per the rules, you can not change the transmission during the race, but you can fix the internal parts. The car eventually returned 20+ laps down but completed the 70% minimum for points.
The sister car, #3 Corvette, put on a show in the final 40 minutes of the race, doing battle with the #45 Porsche and #01 Ferrari. All 3 cars were nose to tail and no one could make a move. On the last lap the #02 Ferrari took the #3 Corvette in turn 5 and the #3 finished 3rd unofficially.
Post race inspections seen the #45 Porsche fail the stall test, disqualifying the Porsche and handing the win to the #02 Ferrari, and moving the #3 Corvette to 2nd. Flying Lizard Motorsports has filed an official protest on the decision, which will be reviewed by the stewards in the coming days.
The #3 Corvette drivers Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia move up into the points lead ahead of their teammates Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the #4 Corvette.
Next on the schedule is Mid-Ohio where we will see the return of the SRT Viper. |
