| ALMS CEO, Scott Atherton is telling everyone who has ears that THIS year's Sebring in one for the ages. 56 entries [Sebring Spotters Guide] 18 of which come from Europe as this race is a double-header event - a combined ALMS / ILMC [Intercontinent Le Mans Cup race].
In GT, 24 entries. 18 from ALMS. A third Corvette via Labre Competition. Tech support from Pratt & Miller, support from GM, attitude by Jake [check the windscreen and the team logo]!
Testing started on Monday and continued through the traditional PM night practice session. Corvette Racing has been around the sharp end of the grid all week. P1 during a day session and P2 in the evening, only 3 tenth off the best time. Timing and Scoring.
As expected, the big competition is Ferrari [new 458 and 430], the updated BMW's, and 2011 Porsches. Corvette improvements over the winter seem to be paying off. Power and fuel efficiency were a focus. CR partner / Sebring sponsor Mobil1, for example, provides the team a new/innovative 0/50 lubricant. Replacing the previous 15/50 blend, this synthetic is even more slippery with no loss of protection / no increase in wear. CR is also running some super-special gear oil delivering the same benefits to further help stretch C6R fuel mileage.
Qualifying on Friday. Raceday Saturday. A big day. A big moment starting an important-for-Corvette [win-back the championship] season. |
