But, who knew that Corvette led the ‘lowrider’ hydraulics trend.
Thanks to Speedhunters.com, we get the story of X-Sonic and Ron Aguirre, an original Corvette badboy if they’re ever was one, back in the James Dean years. Lowrider hydraulics came about to beat the cops. Definitely read the SH story to enjoy how Ron tells it -
* "I left the car down and started to drive out, the side pipes scraping the pavement [It was way cool to have your car dragging on the pavement].”
* "Well, knowing Sandy [the cop] was across the street waiting to give me a ticket in front of all my friends and teach them that this punk was not going to get away with breaking the law, again."
* "I pulled out onto the street and watched Sandy start his bike. I told my buddy to start pumping [the manual hydraulics]. I didn't get 20ft before Sandy had his red lights on me. I got out of the car, with everyone from the drive-in standing on the sidewalk, and greeted Sandy - 'Hi, what seems to be the problem?'"
* "He stated, 'You know your car's too low'. But, I said, ‘It isn't too low any more, I took your advise and raised it to legal height’."
* “He smiled at me and took his ticket book [Back then, cops checked cars by passing their book under your car] and he slid it under MY car without hitting anything.”
* “Boy, was his face red, with all my friends yelling and screaming. He didn't say a word, he gave me a confused look, got on his bike, and left. Oh, revenge was so sweet....."
