| We can't overestimate the importance of Saturday's race for Corvette.
Corvette is back in competition with it's arch-sportscar rivals [and already trouncing most]. GT2 is where the mighty vettes have to be - to stay relevant. Corvette, plus the ALMS and its Fans - all got what they wanted from the debut of the GT2 Corvettes. * Both cars ran flawlessly to the finish. * Both cars logged lap times among the leaders. * The team got to the podium in its debut. * The move to GT2 works!
.....ALMS race directors were relieved to see competition not domination has come to GT2. [For now. Watch out Lizards!]
....and The Fans got to see the beginnings of the Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Corvette fight we've been itching for for so long!
As to the specifics, 2 observations -
* Best Corvette race lap was a 122.3, fastest GT2 race lap was a 122.0. [Clearly, the newC6R is totally on pace!]
* The race result was set by 2 events; Pit stops [#3 took 2 stops, the winning Porsche, only 1] and a Full-Course Yellow [that divided the GT2 field - Lizard / JO and, 1-lap back, all the rest].
GM Racing PR has more, including the fact that the new C6R's took 1-2 in the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge. Check out the Corvette Racing Gallery.
Watch for future newC6R tuning on set-up, mpg, tire wear control.
On now to Road America, where ZR1 mph legs will improve the chances for getting the 1st GT2 P1 for Corvette Racing. |
