| Phil Hill never raced a Corvette. But, he did the next best thing driving a Chevy at the end of his career and leaving his mark on GM Racing via his Chaparral contributions. In fact, it was Phil [and only Phil] that gave Chaparral wins with 3 of its more famous designs - the 2D, 2E, and 2F.
The 2D, at [the real] Nürburgring with co-driver, Joakim Bonnier. The 2E [above - although that is Jim Hall's car], @ Laguna Seca. The 2F, at Brands Hatch with co-driver, Mike Spence.
But, Phil didn't really escape the 'Corvette Connection'.
When Johnny O'Connell became the all-time leader in Sebring victories with his 7th career, his victory broke the record held by..........Phil Hill. PH tallied his 6 wins on the Sebring course - 3 overall victories (1958-59 and 1961) and 3 class wins (1955, 1962-63). JO got to 7 with a 1994 overall win and class wins in 1993, 1995, and 2002 / 03 / 04 / 08.
In his memory and honor, run your cursor through Phil Hill's year-by-year racing record [link above] and marvel at this guy's 20-year success. ...and yeah, he won his last race! In a CHEVY.
