| "3 C6R officially on the Pole!!!!!!!" ...that was the last line of the team's field report back to the US! But, don't misjudge the 7 exclamation points as an expression of unexpected surprise. This is a team IN THE ZONE, right now.
Fastest in Day 1. Pole position on Day 2. New GT1 Lap Record.
* All the assignments on all the session work plans are checked off and accomplished. * Both C6R's are set up where the team and drivers want them to be. * Both cars are ready to run the 24, as per the Corvette plan. * All strategies checked and practiced.
Corvette Racing 2008 may be the best prepared [and in their best mindset EVER] going into the 24. As Godug alluded in an earlier BBV post, the Corvette team cares about no one else- just THEIR plan, THEIR job.
But, something else is going on.
It feels like we are watching a baseball team in the middle of a brilliant no-hitter performance. Everyone on the team knows it's going well BUT, the job is not done. So, there are no cross-comments about what's happening [don't jinx the vibe].....no self-aggrandizing compliments. Just a narrow-eyed, quietly intense focus.
There are no guarantees in sports, in racing, in life.
But, with Corvette @ Le Mans this year, you can feel that this team is intensely fighting to control its destiny to recapture a crown lost last year to mechanicals, a final hour yellow flag, and a worthy foe that they may have 'let off the hook'.
But, not this year. Victory will have to be taken FROM Corvette. Game on? BATTLE on!
