| At what point is a particular Vette considered by us to be a true Bad Boy Vette?
We're not entirely sure, but there's no doubt we know one when we see one.
With the Marathon Oil Corvette back in Daytona '72 there is no doubt - it is a Certified Bad Boy Vette.
Caught red-handed switching their production 427 with a monster-powered Reynolds 510 CID CanAm engine in qualifying trials, the drivers - Tony DeLorenzo and Jerry Thompson - somehow managed to talk the officials out of disqualification and switch back to the stock engine to enter the race. Whether it was passing a Ferrari at 200+ mph on a straightaway or just the chest pounding vibration that the 510 made that caused the SCCA officials investigate, we'll never know.
A burst tire and crash on the 21st lap ended it for our ballsy Marathon 'Vette but its legend will live on forever in the annals of BadBoyness.
